Remove the pauses and restarts from a talking video

A creator asks Claude to cut the long pauses, the restart and the repeated line out of a 40-second tips video. cuttingfloor keeps every point, adds big word-by-word captions and a hook title: a 21-second Short.

What needs to go

Okay, so three things I wish I knew before I started posting. [long pause, looks away] Number one, nobody, nobody, wait, let me start that again. Number one: nobody watches past three seconds unless you give them a reason. [silence] Number two: your first 50 videos are practice [long pause] and that’s fine. [coffee sip] Number three: just post it. Seriously, just post the thing. Just post the thing. Okay, follow for part two. [silence]

  1. Cut out the long pauses, the ums and the bits where I start over.

On it. I’ll find where you’re really talking, mark the restarts and repeats, and keep your last clean try of each line.

    • Used cuttingfloor › skills.search the cleanup steps
    • Used cuttingfloor › media.analyze every word, timed
    • Used cuttingfloor › code.run words beside speech, per take
    • Used cuttingfloor › code.run Jev marked restarts and repeats
    • Used cuttingfloor › edit.batch kept 6 parts, in order
    • Used cuttingfloor › edit.batch smoothed the cuts
    • Used cuttingfloor › audio.set_master louder, no clipping
    • Used cuttingfloor › render.frames checked both sides of each cut
    • Used cuttingfloor › export.video vertical, 0:21

Done: 40 seconds down to 21. I cut the restart, the repeated line, the long pause and the coffee sip, and kept every point in order. Want big captions?

  2. Yes, big captions.

Big bold captions coming, a word at a time, with a title up top for the first few seconds.

    • Used cuttingfloor › media.analyze exact word timings
    • Used cuttingfloor › code.run captions and hook title
    • Used cuttingfloor › render.frames checked the caption size
    • Used cuttingfloor › edit.batch bigger text
    • Used cuttingfloor › qa.check length and volume
    • Used cuttingfloor › export.video vertical, 0:21

Here it is, ready to post: big yellow captions all the way through and “3 things I wish I knew before posting” across the top. Want a thumbnail too?

Shown in your agent: Claude, ChatGPT or Kazi. cuttingfloor does the editing and hands back the file; your agent shows it to you.

What the agent did

  1. Followed the steps for cleaning up a talking video.
  2. Lined up every word with where she’s really talking in each take.
  3. Had Jev, its own vision model, mark the restart and the repeated line, then checked each one.
  4. Kept the clean second try of “Number one” and dropped the first.
  5. Dropped the second “Just post the thing.”
  6. Cut the long pause, the coffee sip and the silences between takes.
  7. Softened every cut and zoomed in a little on every other part, so nothing jumps.
  8. Made the sound louder without clipping.
  9. Added big word-by-word captions with the spoken word in yellow.
  10. Put a hook title across the top for the first 5 seconds, and exported it vertical.
